Daylight Starlight

A man once told me outright:

“I wish there were stars in the daylight.”

I smiled at his narrow sight,

Knowing he wasn’t right,

But not wanting to start a fight.

He said the stars were due:

“To be seen in the daylight too.”

I smiled at his limited view,

Knowing it wasn’t true,

But not wanting to argue…

It seems he hasn’t been able to see:

The stars in every water shard

Of the surface of the sea.

I believe he’s missed:

The twinkle in every eye

Beaming with precious happiness.

I don’t think he’s seen the reflection

That light ignites in a diamond

As it reverberates perfection.

What about the light in every tear,

The love shining through

And conquering every fear?

Or the drops in a waterfall,

Sunlight on a silver pool,

Creating a rainbow for all.

Nevermind the sun-kissed dew,

That’s cradled in leaves and petals

Gleaming for all to view.

Yes, I know, millions of stars

Decorate the night, it’s true,

But, I also know, millions of stars

Surround us in the daylight too.
