My Prayer for Our Love

-

We’re going to say:

“I do.”

Soon.

-

I know life is unpredictable.

I know nothing is guaranteed,

But I’m hoping,

With everything I am,

That you feel as I do:

-

That even in absence

Our love is so strong

It remains a tangible presence.

-

That even in argument

There is no malice

Or ill intent,

Instead, only desire for betterment.

-

That our love is a light

Which disperses all darkness

Because it shines so bright.

-

I pray that over time our love,

Is nothing like:

-

The fleeting ships in the harbour,

But, instead:

May our love match

The love the moon has

For the ocean when it rises;

With neither being as magnificent alone

As it is with the other.

-

I pray that over time our love,

Is nothing like:

Ozymandias

And his statue,

But, instead:

Is everything like

The permanent beauty of the Alps

And the desert sands;

Strength and permanence

Beyond the life of man.
