I just wanted to share some things that I have learned by reading Breaking Dawn. I don't know if things like this jump out at other people but I really felt this was so much more than just a good story. It really taught me a lot about myself and my beliefs. Also, for your information, l I am 30 years old and yes, even an adult can enjoy Twilight!
The first thing that struck me after finishing the books is how the number one thing I love about the books are the relationships. Jake teasing Rosalie, Emmett teasing Bella, the obvious love, amusement, and just the way Edward sees Bella is awe inspiring. I really need to make some friends. No man is an island and that is so true. Like Bella, I hope one day I will belong to a big family on earth, but even if that doesn't happen, as a Christian, I belong to a forever family and that is going to be one great party up there.
The second thing I learned, through my response to the book is Bella sees Edward as her all in all, the only thing she lives for and he is her savior. I was convicted because I sometimes think like that. I think about how when I find love and get married how that will somehow make everything magically better. The truth is we get our truest strength from God. No person should be the center of our lives, but Jesus. Earthly love is wonderful and God approves marital love, but it isn't your reason for being! No man should be able to tell you your worth. Discover it first. Know yourself and love yourself. You don't need anyone's approval but God's!
Also I had some observations about the transformation process. It brought several things to mind. Bella suffers to be with Edward forever. Christ suffered so we could be with him forever. It made me think about the transformations in our own lives – childhood to adulthood, human on earth and after death eternally immortal, lost in our sin and finding ourselves in Jesus. Life is all about change. It can be scary at times, but without change, we never grow into the person God created us to be .
The other thing I observed is how when Bella became a vampire, it was like she suddenly had clarity, sharper focus, like walking from a dream to reality. I often surround myself with make believe. It is fun to escape in a world where things are perfect and you are happy and all you want comes true, but I think that as much as I get enjoyment and contentment by all the stories I read and how I dream of many things, it is like pre-vampire life. When I finally start living out my dreams, that will be a transformation of sorts.
Also, sometimes, scratch that. Often, life on Earth disappoints us. We struggle, suffer, and never can get to the place of total happiness. Sure there are wonderful things to aspire to and great blessings to partake of. Some of these might be a loving healthy marriage, children, a gratifying career, hobbies, relationships, posessions, goals to meet, dreams that become reality. But whether you achieve it all or have a lot of failures and disappointments, This life is like the misty haze of a dream, or being human, if you will. When we get to heaven, if we have trusted Jesus to save us, Everything will be more. Perfection and to use Edward's words, “every single thing they want, plus all the things they didn't think to ask for.” Perfect bodies, perfect health, mentally, physically, spiritually. We will know exactly the right thing to do. No more wondering exactly what decision God wants us to make, it will all be clear. No more struggling to walk by faith, we will see Jesus as he really is and love him more than we were ever capable of on Earth. My second favorite part is we will never have to do anything that is hard or a struggle. Work will be like play, enjoyable and feel important. No more uncertainty, want to know something, you can ask the one who knows EVERYTHING.In heaven we will have no loneliness, no boredom, no irritation, no anger, no sadness, no pain, nothing that is evil, no dying, no parting with loved ones ever again. We will be able to meet every Christian who ever walked the face of the earth. I mean, I am sure the idea of having unlimited energy to have sex every night forever is appealing to some... but wow... I can't even imagine feeling so complete.. Not being able to come up with something you don't have. No restlessness, no unrequited longings, everything we ever hoped or longed for will be resolved in a way leaving us with complete contentment and peace, joy beyond measure. In short, we will be home. I don't know about you, but I can't wait!
My favorite part about heaven , is the one who created us, who loved us so much he died for us, will be present. We will truly understand and know how it feels to be loved so completely and unconditionally. While we were sinners (aka, clumsy, not beautiful in the conventional way, shy, in short Bella the imperfect human) Christ, the perfect being who, in all honesty, Edward can't hold a candle to, He LOVED US! I was struck how imperfect Bella can't understand how perfect Edward could love her, at least not as much as she loved him... I struggle the same way to understand what Jesus possibly can see in me. To know and enjoy a love like that right now is like having 1 second of being a vampire and then being human again. We recognize that this life for all it's beauty and gifts can't hold a candle to the clear ultimate reality of seeing the true love of our lives face to face. Right now our relationship with him feels a little dreamlike, a little fuzzy, a little incomplete. Sometimes it is one step forward two steps back due to sin, the weakness of our faith, difficulty understanding the point of what we go through and what it all means, but when we get to heaven, all I can say is wow!
