Clouds. That’s all I saw.

They coated the sky in grey and black.

A miserable start to a miserable day.

The sun was peeking out over the horizon,

Behind a blanket of black.

The farm was beginning to stir,

From that blissful slumber of the night.

The birds, just starting to sing.

The badgers all hid and the rabbits came out to play.

As I walked down the soggy lane,

I heard old Chester stamp and snort.

As I entered the damp, old stall,

He approached my pocket and gave it a sniff.

He can smell the carrot,

Even though it’s hidden away.

He whinnies so persuasively, I must give in.

I pulled myself up to the hay loft and threw him down his food.

That’s my favourite animal finished.

On with the rest of my dreary chores and the rest of the day.
