What is love, except an emotion?
Something we feel when we care?
As ever changing and everlasting as the seven oceans,
Two people engage in an affair.
On the contrary, hate, burning with anger,
And ill-wish those we loathe,
Hurting them and staring daggers,
We promise pain with an oath.
I know these emotions, two ends of the scale,
One brings friends and the other takes them away.
Hate corrodes and gives ail,
While love is healing and sews up the soul's fray.
But love, too, can be corrupted, with lust and greed,
I see those who look on things with lecherous gaze,
Such things as this is where sin will breed,
And good dies in Hell's blaze.
So, love, I wish we only had that,
The good and pure kind.
Perhaps with this emotion there will no combat,
What a wonder would this be to find.
