In A Perfect World

In a perfect world

Relationships that are forged would last forever

And bonds that form, nothing could sever.

Sticks and stones would actually hurt more than words

Instead of comments that pierce like swords.

In a perfect world

People wouldn't be judged by their appearance

But by their character and perseverance.

Bullies would make the best friends

Instead of looking at people as means to an end.

In a perfect world

Money wouldn't control all aspects of life

Or cause arguments between husband and wife.

The poor would be cared for and respected

Instead of ignored, avoided, and neglected

But it's not a perfect world.

Relationships end

And never mend.

People are judged and pushed and shoved.

And money is power.

But maybe it is time to help the progress

so we won't always retrogress.

It's a new year.

Open our ears instead of just pretending to hear.

Open our eyes instead of just pretending to see .

And maybe a perfect world it could be.
