Nessi's world

Hi, I'm Ness and welcome to my world. Some of you are probably wondering why I chose to share my story on this particular day? Well, today is the first time that I will be away from my mother, I am going away because mama signed me up for a talent show for special needs. I love video games, I love watching Netflix, YouTube, and apps that I find fun and entertaining, but most importantly, I have a passion for drawing. I spent my quality time drawing all sorts of art. You see this woman in the picture, that's my mama. She tried for weeks preparing me for this day and even made my favorite breakfast, waffles, egg, and bacon with mango and passion fruit smoothie. She ironed my suits, polished my good old shoes and topped it out with my late father's hat and black briefcase. My briefcase carries my speech machine that has become my voice and with some homemade educational flashcards, to help me and my caregivers. I have always known mama to be extremely clean ( looking neat and tidy, matters to mama), she is also hard-working and a warrior. Here's why: I am an active and happy young man at the age of 19 years old. I live with my mom, and younger sister Alo, for the past 18 years, I got help from my super assistants, who helped me do all the things and activities, that most boys my age enjoy doing. I consider myself to be a very social and curious person and I enjoy other people's companies, but it is sometimes extremely challenging for me to leave a good impression on people I come across since I have ADHD and am autistic and nonverbal, which sometimes leaves me feeling a little bit frustrated. Mama found out I was autistic when I was almost 3 years of age and as you can imagine, she felt emptied and she cried a lot. It wasn't so much about having an autistic child, but how the world would view my differences. Since my diagnosis, mama spends her entire days, weeks and months with us. Her life is not like most people her age, but some parents might be able to relate to the situations. Mama is used to doing everything alone and even though she does not say it, I think having (a child with special needs) makes it even harder for her to try and get involved with anyone (dating wise). This is because of the different challenges and responsibilities. Mama always tries to encourage and support me and on this day, she followed me to my final destination to say her goodbye as she stood close to me. She whispered: 'I will get on my knees and pray for protection because in this time of need, it's the only thing you need, so I will say, may the blessings of the Lord remain with you, my love, and may all your wishes and dreams come true.
