Its a new year, year 3000, and everyone is having a party, but something goes wrong, terribly wrong.

“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year!!”

My lounge room is crowded with at least fifty people clinking their glasses together and throwing streamers. One rouge steamer hits the Happy Year 3000 banner, taking it down. “Damn, people I know this is a party but I spent ages putting this up!” I yell over the crowd of cheering people who couldn’t care less about the effort I had put into making this place beautiful. I guess everyone figured Jane, (my mechanical assistant) did all the decoration but I had to get up every five minutes and repair her! I need to recycle her soon, I’ve been telling myself that for years, I just don’t want to part with her.

Jane is gliding around the room holding out drinks on a sliver platter, amazingly she hasn’t broken down and spilt them everywhere, but I thought to soon, a little spark fly out of her metal back then the rest of her catches fire. 

“Damn not again.” I mutter to myself. I take my remote control and press of “off” button. The flames immediately extinguish, I open the back hatch of her and unplug the wires.

The red light of her eyes burn out and it breaks my heart, she has been with me for years and I finally have to let her go. And in front of all my friends and family to, a tear escapes my eye and I wipe it away quickly hoping no one else noticed. I carry her out, she is surprisingly light, I take her to my bedroom, and sit her down. I will have to throw her out tomorrow.

Heels come clicking down the hallway, “ Jesse come quickly, something serious is going on!” Natalie screams at me.

“What is it, what’s going on?” I ask.

“I don’t know, a warning bug just came flying through the window saying that we need to turn on the television in two minutes for an emergency broadcast.” She replied. A warning bug is a little green robot the size of a tennis ball, one is sent to every house in the case of an emergency, it shows a hologram of our Prime Minister talking giving us instruction as to what to do in an upcoming emergency.

I rush out of the my room following Natalie back to the party which is now silent, everyone facing the television covering the entire wall. Natalie is always nagging me to get a television room, a room where all four walls are covered by the moving images. As if I could afford something like that!

Suddenly the Prime Ministers face fills up the screen, “People, do not panic, we have a potentially dangerous situation.” He is interrupted by a huge crashing sound. We all rush to the window and see steel and glass falling from the sky.

Huge pieces of glass hurtled towards the ground at a fast pace, then impaling people out on the streets celebrating.

I feel like throwing up, how could this have happened!?

“There has been what looks like another planet has broken through the Glass Ozone Layer.” That sends everyone into panic, about twenty years ago the ozone layer nearly completely disappeared and as a last effort we put a dome around the earth made of the strongest materials that we have.

A dark shadow covers everything around me, as the planet crushes down on earth, everything goes black.
