Do you ever feel in control?

Sure you do, right now you control whether you want to read this or not. You control your movements, actions and your choices. If you want to watch a video, you just do that. If you want to eat something, you eat something. If you want to keep breathing, you keep breathing. You are in control of your own body. Right?

Sure, but what exactly is true control?

If you make the choices for others, be the one calling the shots, you are in control of them, but lets take a step back from controlling others, and talk some more about true control.

You choose to breath, but why? Yes you need oxygen so you can live, but that's not the right answer. Why do you want to live? Because you feel like it of course. You don't want to die yet, there is still a lot more to do.

But still...

Why do you feel that way? Did you choose to feel that way?

Who chose to make you feel that way? Who chooses how you feel about anything?

Do you choose to get angry? Do you choose to be happy?

Your answer to this might be that external sources have an influence, that you are happy because you are with the one you love, or you are angry because someone hit you in the face.

But then let me ask you again, do you choose to feel that way about those things? Not really right?

Some times you might even find yourself in a situation where you don't know why you feel a certain way about something. You know you should be doing your homework, that it is the right thing to do, but you just don't feel like it. You might even want yourself to want to do the homework, to want yourself to find it interesting so that you can learn, but you just don't have that feeling. Maybe there is something you like even though you know it's wrong, feelings that you don't want to have. Why is that?

You don't choose how you feel about anything.

You don't control your feelings, but make your choices depending on how you feel...

The part of your brain that is conscious, the part that is you, your mind, has control of where you go, what you do and how you treat your body. But not all of your body is under your control. Most of the organs aren't under your control. Neither do you control your dreams. Who decides what to show you in your dreams?

There is obviously something else but you that does have some kind of control.

This might not be interesting to you, it might actually be boring, but let me ask you this...

Who or what exactly chose to make you feel that way?

Do you still feel in control?
