Wow, I never knew this about the dogwood. I have to go out tomorrow morning and look at the leaves. Thanks for sharing this. Donna:)
Hi Donna and thank you. I did the same thing the first time I read it. The write is accurate as far as the description goes. The story itself has become legend especially here in Kentucky where we live. Let me know! Susan :)
Did you ever figure out who wrote this one. Always one of my favorites. Love the dogwoods we have. Beautiful sweetie. Gary
Hi Gary and thank you. No the author is unknown. I love our dogwoods as well. The red one is pretty, but my favorite will always be the white ones. Susan :)
I've always loved this story to!
It inspired us to plant dogwood trees!
They were beautiful!
Hi Kelley and thank you. The same here. I love the white ones the best. We planted one in the front yard and have several growing in the woods behind us. Beautiful trees. Susan :)
An interesting story whether fact or fiction it rings so true that the tree of pain would never exist as once before for the pain that was inflicted in the creation of the cross for both the son of God and the Tree itself.A powerful and poignant piece.
Hi Eileen thank you. The first time I heard the legend I went to a dogwood and observed for myself the things described in the poem. I doubt the dogwood actually grew in the Holy land, but it makes for an interesting theory. None the less dogwoods are one of my favorite trees. They are difficult to grow and maintain, but have exceptional beauty. Susan :)
