I have always preferred rainfall over sunshine,

So maybe that explains

Why I chose you over anyone else.

Days, weeks, years I spent,

Struggling to find my way around

The labyrinth that was your mind.

I sat back and listened to

My heart scuffle with my brain,

Perpetually bleeding to the sound of your voice.

I have always preferred dusk over dawn,

So maybe that explains

Why I hoped your fingertips could ignite the firelight in me.

But your touch was traced with poison that seeped into my soul,

Everlastingly staining my skin until my body did not need to produce more melanin,

And I decided that I would bleed for better reasons this year.
