This article is about the various injustices that women in India are subjected to. This is not only taking place due to the lethargic superstitious belief of some Indians ,but also due to the cheap outlook of some men as well as some boys.

I would like to draw your attention towards a problem that our country India is faced with. Women have always been ill-treated in India. We do protest against these injustices from time to time but usually the victims get lost amidst some newspaper articles, some slogans and some police reports.Let us go through a few articles.

Once I came across an old and shriveled woman who had worked in a brothel in her youth. She told me that she used to be extremely beautiful. Her boyfriend tricked her to run away to Kolkata from her village along with him. There he sold her to the owner of a brothel . Being very beautiful she got many customers who derived malicious pleasure by brutally raping her. For a few days she could not understand what was happening to her as she was very young. After being engaged in this dirty profession for many years, she fell in love with one of the customers .Unfortunately she was not lucky in love. So she got into drugs that ruined her life.

Let us take another example . A woman from a remote village, ran away to Haridwar. There she was "rescued" by a group of fake sadhus who used her as a sex slave for months. Eventually she had to smear her body with her own excreta to keep off predators. Her tormenters left her when they noticed a deep wound inflicted upon her thigh , which left unattended had turned lethal. there were maggots crawling all over her body when an organization finally found her.

An old man flogging his daughter-in-law in public is a very common sight in many Indian villages. Eve-teasing,molestations and acid attacks are almost inevitable. Not even conservatively dressed women are able to avoid men with bad intentions. Women are being harassed even at workplaces. They dare not step out of their houses at night. And here we are celebrating Durga Puja, worshipping the feminine power when some of us least respect it. What right do we have to spoil someone's life when we cannot give it back to her? Yes winter is here and I think (unlike Shelley) that spring is far behind.
