Of course we all know the story of the dear Snow White... but what about the dwarves? Those seven charming litte men that housed and fed Snow White. There was Dopey, Doc, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, and Grumpy, but they weren't always like this. For example, Grumpy wasn't ALWAYS unhappy. So this is his story; the story of Brainy Smalls.

"Brainy, hurry ACHOO up! We're going to be late for ACHOO mining school!" Sneezy said as he rushed past Brainy sitting in the library.
Brainy glanced up from his large book to look at the time. Sneezy was right; class starts in only a few minutes and Brainy needed to get there in time to get a good seat in the front of the class. He packed up his little bag and ran off to the mines.
"Today we'll be reviewing diamond cutting techniques. Everyone get to their stations!" Mr. Pine said.
Brainy ended up having to sit next to his brother, Happy, who wouldn't shut-up about what a wonderful day he was having. All Brainy could think about, though, was Daisy. Pretty Daisy who was as sweet as honey and as beautiful as a starry night. Brainy sighed quietly at the thought of her and then came to his senses when Mr. Pine came around to check their work.
"Doc, your diamond is perfect! And how is our star-basketball player doing this season?"
"Great, Mr. Pine. Thanks for asking," Doc replied. Modest, as always.
"So where is Sleepy?"
"Sleeping in," Doc answered honestly.
"Ah, I see." Mr. Pine turned to the rest of the class."So who can tell me which dwarf began this mine 50 years ago? Anyone?" Mr. Pine asked the class.
Brainy didn't even have to think before answering. "Joyful Tiny and he started the mine hoping to find the heart of the forest, but found diamonds instead, which he--"
"Thank you, Brainy, but I just needed the name." Mr. Pine cut him off.
The class snickered.
"Right, just the name," Brainy mumbled as he slid further into his seat. Brainy didn't talk for the rest of the class even though he knew every answer. He was afraid of humiliating himself again. Class eventually let out and Brainy was walking through the forest with his head down, trying to disappear.
"Hey, smarty pants. Know any more answers?" Brainy didn't have to turn around to know who was talking to him. Twig, the school bully, got closer, and stood in front of Brainy so that he was blocking his path. "Joyful Tiny! It was Joyful Tiny, Mr. Pine!" Twig said in a mocking voice. "You really know how to make a fool of yourself, smarty pants."
"Don't call me that."
"What was that?" Suddenly some of Twig's cronies came out of nowhere and closed in on Brainy. "Want to say that again?" Twig asked. A small group of students surrounded them, anticipating the fight to come. Brainy took a look around, then just shook his head. "That's what I thought, now give me your lunch."
"Okay," Brainy muttered as he handed Twig his lunch pail. Some of Twig's entourage knocked Brainy's books out of his hands and pushed him to the ground. "Loser," One dwarf said as he walked away with a smug grin.
"Are you okay?" Daisy asked as she helped him off the ground.
"Uh, yes. I think so." Brainy dusted himself off and picked up his books. He wasn't really sure what to say then. Here was Daisy, the girl of his dreams and he was just pushed to the ground by a group of numbskulls. If only he could make himself more popular so that Daisy would like him.
"Sorry, but I have to go," Daisy said after handing him the last of his fallen books. "See you around?"
"Yeah," Brainy answered simply, then she left with a smile and wave. He continued on, thinking about Daisy and a multitude of other things. When he got home, Bashful and Dopey were in the sitting room playing Call of Duty: Black Tree Tops.
"Hey! Wanna play?" Dopey asked from the couch, not even looking away from the screen. No wonder his brain was fried.
"Not right now, Dope. I'm a little busy with some stuff," Brainy said as he rushed past, but it was already too late. There was no escaping now.
Bashful stood up dramatically and placed his hand on his hip. "Brainy, you have been working way too hard lately. You need to relax and have some fun. Now sit down and play video games or, so help me, I will burn every single one of your books." Apparently Bashful was feeling extra flamboyant today, but Brainy didn't protest.
While sitting there with his brothers playing video games, he kept thinking about Daisy. She would probably like him if he was more like Doc. Athletic, popular, and loved by everyone he meets, but Brainy didn't want to be Doc. He just wanted what Doc had: People who liked him.
Brainy then started to think about his favorite bands, like Gnome-Sync or Backstreet Beards. They all had a bad boy and he was the one that stood out more than the rest; the one that was the most liked.
"I got it!" Brainy hopped up and dashed up to his bedroom.
The next day, Brainy emerged from his room as a new person. Sleepy was shuffling by on his way to the bathroom, when he saw Brainy. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped in surprise. "What are you wearing?!"
Brainy looked down at his ripped up jeans, white T-shirt, and black leather jacket. "Don't I look fly?"
"Excuse me?"
"Never mind," Brainy said, shaking his head and walking past Sleepy. "I have to get to school."
Expecting to be ignored and made fun of as always, Brainy was surprised when fellow dwarves complimented him as he passed. It was nice to be positively recognized, but the only opinion he cared about was Daisy's. He spotted her by a nearby tree and smoothly strode up to her. "What's happening, honey?" Brainy asked in a careless tone as he leaned against the tree.
"Oh, Brainy, Hi. Um, how are you?" She looked him up and down skeptically.
He was nervous. "I'm good. So... what do you think?" He did a little spin to show her all sides of his new outfit.
"I have to get to class. Bye." She hurried off.
Sighing, Brainy tried to figure out what he did wrong. He had the look and the talk down. Why didn't she like him?
"Hey, Brainy! Cool jacket," Tulip, Daisy's friend, complimented him.
"You think, so?"
"Yeah! They're great, but you don't really fit the part," She said, frowning a little.
Confused, Brainy asked, "What do you mean?"
"Well, you're just too nice. You need to be more moody and grumpy, you know?" Tulip said with a smile.
Brainy nodded then, thinking that he knew what to do. "Well, I guess I'll just have to keep being grumpy until Daisy loves me."
Little did he know, though, that Daisy was around the corner, talking to her friends. She was upset and her heart was broken. Her friends asked her what was wrong. Daisy replied gloomily, "I wish he would stop being grumpy so I could love him."
And unfortunately, they lived unhappily ever after.
