A Warped Reality

In a movie I once heard, “When we make our dreams a reality, reality becomes a dream”. When we were young there were always those scary stories that made us scared to our core. One in particularly was “La Llorona” (The Weeping Woman). This is a story that has been told for many moons. The story is told to be about a woman who was the prettiest of them all in her village. All the guys liked her and all the girls wanted to look and be her. Her name was Maria, and one day she met the man of her dreams. They got married and had two children together. One day Maria seen him talking to another woman and began to become full of anger with her kids and her husband. Maria and her two children went for a walk one night and she seen her husband once again talking to another woman. She began to feel the hate, rage, and anger, forcing it all on her children, throwing them in the river never to be found again. Till this day they say the woman walks up and down the river bed screaming out for her children, weeping. The story warned kids not to go out at night or else the weeping lady would snatch them up, never returning again. Stories like this impact the life’s of many people making them believe that it is all true, but is it?

People are so obsessed with fantasy that they make it a reality. In the world we are living in, the fantasy’s in book, games, and the internet start to become their reality. Every generation is different, but in my generation there has been quite the obsession with vampires, witchcraft and wizardry, and the paranormal. Why the sudden obsession after many years? For example, Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman have always been around terrifying many people. Yet no one ever decided to go off the deep end to become them. Well here’s my warped reality.

I have always been interested in the paranormal yet I was the biggest skeptic. Every time I watched television it was always Ghost Hunters or Ghost Adventures. On those shows they always had some type of ghost experience, which in my head all I thought was “I wish I could have an experience like that”. One day, out of the blue, my parents were telling me that as a child I was always the one to say and do weird things around the house. It all started when I was five years old. At the oddest moments of the day I’d say things such as “grandpa likes this with his sandwich” or “grandpa taught me how to play with a yo-yo”. My grandfather died when my father was seven. Never had a chance to meet him but for some reason I knew who he was. Till this day I can still tell you what he looked like, his smile, the way he talked all without ever meeting him. I used to have dreams, as clear as day of him as if he was really there. When I started to get older he slowly started to drift away then never returning back.

Time went on and soon I found myself in high school. A little bit before high school, I finally wanted my own room so I moved into the room in the basement. At first it was quite nice not having to share with anyone but things started to get scary. Night time turned into sleepless nights full of nightmares of terror. It scared me at first but not to the point it scared me out of the room, until the night everything changed. Finally I was sleeping, no crazy dreams, just peace and quiet. All of a sudden I found myself gasping for air. My chest tightened up and my throat was being squeezed as if it was a lemon. Screaming wasn’t an option so I couldn’t yell for help.  Seconds passed by and slowly I went into no man’s land. By the corner of my eye all, there was a bright light of some sort. When the light showed up, it was like the pressure finally came off my throat and my chest. This was warning not to ever ask for such an experience or else you’ll get the warped reality that you wished for.
