Prologue

The cries of a newborn echoed in Restless Finder’s ears. He looked at the row of beds filled with babies, none of them with the Spark. Hopeless, he sat and watched as a little one, with red-brown hair, was placed on a bed. The Finder stared at her, hopeful. He looked and looked until a darkness covered him, blood and flesh flashed before him. Cries of fear filled his ears. He screamed, falling backward as the vision ended. Her Spark, dark and evil, so dangerous it was hunted until they were extinct, Death.

Chapter 1

An Orange Lightning Storm

I sat through a long lecture with Mr. Robert, wishing my life would end. He was standing at the front of the classroom, his, what he calls, Teaching Stick, pointing at spots on the rotting map on the wall. I couldn't wait for the day to end, because tonight we split up to other schools, for a month! My thoughts spun with excitement.

There are three schools, each one holding two types of magic kids, Fire and water. Sky and storm. Life and death. But, once a year, we go to other schools for a magical talent show for a month. With death thought to be extinct, life was split into two groups. I join one, being the only death in existence. This year, my group is going to storm! I can’t wait to meet some guys.

My name is Ivory Death. My parents were unmagics so I was kidnapped as a baby, brought to this school and named, my last name after my power. I'm the only death and I'm 16 years old. I go to the school death would have gone to, before they went extinct. I have a life for a roommate, of course. I learn about my magic through books, ancient books. Magics have to know how to hide their powers, so humans don't kill them, that’s why we go to school.

The day ended, finally. I ran to my room, where Lilyann Life, my roommate, was. She was done packing and sat on her bed, reading a book on storms from the library. I hurried and packed, throwing my nice robes and a dress into my bag.

Lily looked at me, “You're prepared.”

“I may meet some hot guy there, I may have a date.”

Lily rolled her eyes and looked down to her book again. “Did you know that storms can electrocute themselves?” She pointed at the page.

I shook my head, “No.”

There was a knock on the door, I answered to find Mrs. Starr. “Time to go, ladies.” She chirped. “You are sharing a coach with room 3 and 4.” We’re room 2.

Me and Lily groaned, in room 4 are the most rude lifes ever, Sunny Doeland and Cat Winter. Both are from rich Magic families and like to make sure we know they are better.

We went downstairs to the yellow horse-drawn coach, just large enough to fit 6 people. It’s a day’s ride to storm’s school, this will be fun...

Me and Lily entered to find the other teams/rooms were already there. Team 3 had Light Yellowheart and Grace Life.

“Oh look!” Sunny teased, “It’s the ugly death!”

Cat laughed, “And the lonely life!”

We ignored them and sat down, ready for the ride. Grace sat next to me and Lily. Light sat next to Cat and Sunny.

Me and Lily read the book on storms, trying to find any facts we’ll need. There was nothing interesting though.

The ride was long and awful, with the bumpiness from the dirt road and the rude comments from Sunny and Cat. But, when we arrived, I felt more excited than I've ever been in my life. I
