the size of one's own beating heart ?

just hold out both your wrists
and ball your hands up tightly
its the size of both your fists

much larger, hearts of the giraffe
twelve kilograms they weigh
to push the blood up to their brains
as 'neath the trees, they sway

the octopus with tentacles
that number pairs of four
have three hearts inside, working
are they loving three times more ?

a python's heart grows twice the size
when it begins to feed
a stomach larger than their eyes
is not what this beast needs

the heart inside the tiny shrimp
is beating in their head
do they have love more on their mind ?
or simply more misled ?

they say the blue whale has a heart
that's bigger than a car
but just six beats a minute
which seems clearly under par

for a human heart beats seventy
and so in one full year
that's five and thirty million
and they're all for you, my dear
