right after the four gospels

is the stirring book of ax
an instrument for chopping wood
and sometimes for attacks

first up is lizzie borden
and her famous forty whacks
for her to have to take that long
that sure was one dull ax

let's not forget george washington
assailing cherry trees
his honesty then saved him
from a spanking on dad's knees

abe lincoln split some rails for fun
he used his ax to cleave
and also chopped off vampires' heads
or so some folks believe

a woodsman saved red riding hood
the big bad wolf was killed
and then was sliced in thick filets
and in the freezer chilled

they say paul bunyon had an ax
so big it stunned the mind
and carved the great grand canyon
when he let it drag behind

so if you crave good stories
and you're ready to relax
just open up your bible, friend
and read the book of ax
