where everybody knows your name

in a pleasant little township
on a zigzag of a street
stood a lovely little domicile
where we would go to meet
.
where the atmosphere was cozy
and the decorations, quaint
each room a different color
in a crazy quilt of paint
.
one entered through the alley
through a door that wouldn't lock
parades of smiling people
never bothering to knock
.
the was a small piano
standing guard there in the hall
the keys were wildly out of tune
which mattered not at all
.
when someone softly entered
they would play a little tune
providing a small preview
of the face that we'd see soon
.
you could say it was a doorbell
we each had a special call
and if you paid attention
you'd know who was in the hall
.
it was my favorite clubhouse
and so often it will seem
that's where i want to travel
when i wander in a dream
