we went to see a movie
and the film that we had viewed
concerned a poor amnesiac
and sadness had ensued

his empty mind so blank
he didn't recognize his mate
and this was not a tale
where i could easily relate

i looked my loved one in the eye
and said, "what would i do...
if looking at your lovely face
i had no sense of you ?"

she said, "you've written poetry
and through that, we'd survive
i'd show you what you wrote to me
to keep our love alive"

"for you have penned a chronicle
a testament of sorts
containing all the pinnacles
ignoring, not, the warts"

"for sometimes love will not be smooth
though some believe it should
you have to know when things get rough
to tell when it is good"

"so when you're gray and elderly
though memory may fail
when you were young and vibrant
thank the lord, you told the tale"
