hank and gretch were siblings

with a mom whose health had failed
this lass and lad, then stepmom had
who ranted, raved and railed
.
this stepmom told their spineless dad
to murder them one day
it wasn't right, but none too bright
he wanted to obey
.
he led them off one chilly morn
far out into the wild
he brought a knife to take the life
of male and female child
.
hank had dropped some crusts of bread
to relocate their path
but birds then supped and ate them up
and left no aftermath
,
their dad just could not slay them
so he ditched them both right there
so they could freeze by slow degrees
or dined on by a bear
.
they really didn't have a home
they finally understood
they'd rather dare take on a bear
than stepmom, quite no good
.
they wandered through the hills and fields
encountering a lodge
twas made, its said, from gingerbread
with broom shed for garage
.
a kindly woman bade them in
or so that was their hunch
but evil leer made things quite clear
about her plans for lunch
.
when that ol' stove was roaring good
they roughly shoved her in
and she was cooked as on they looked
how crispy grew her skin
.
they then acquired great hunting skills
to help to keep them fed
and after that, they grew quite fat
on bears and gingerbread
