when duty calls, i grab the phone

i never hesitate
i holler, "howdy duty"
"gee, i hope i am not late"

i guess i am responsible
reliable, am i
and that's why "howdy duty"
has become my battle cry

i'm friendly to my fellow man
my fellow woman, too
and if you give the job to me
i'm gonna see it through

i guess i am dependable
when others won't stand tall
and that's why "howdy duty"
has become my battle call

i don't claim to be superman
don't own a cape and tights
but i'll jump over buildings
just to join you in your fights

i guess i am an advocate
when no one else will help
and that's why "howdy duty"
has become my battle yelp

i'll let you pick my brain all night
when weather gets too rough
my shoulders are for your support
whenever times get tough

i'll stomp upon your nightmares
till they're just a gentle dream
and that's why "howdy duty"
has become my battle scream
