a rose is a rose, one might suppose

the lure of silver, grand
upon the sea of galilee
or left bank's lovely strand
there's a very special couple
they're both good friends of mine
turn sow's ears into purses
and turn water into wine
they gave kisses to picasso
also to the lord, divine
and he's hung like judas iscariot
and she's deep like gertrude stein

the muslims said it was jude instead
that wore that thorny crown
and gert, with sass, a radcliffe lass
who soon won great renown
it may be on special brownies
or on fish and loaves, they dine
a disciple and a sapphic
with their lives all intertwined
it seems, "what is the question ?"
was the both of them's last line
and he's hung like judas iscariot
and she's deep like gertrude stein
