so many times the life i've led

has just been pulled apart
a person's reached inside my chest
and came back with my heart
i grabbed it back, but only when
they'd taken a big bite
been torn down so damned often
that my pieces don't fit right

when i have given love a chance
it went and and left me blind
the war that raged inside my head
destroyed my peace of mind
i struggled to my corner
when the bell tolled on that fight
been torn down so damned often
that my pieces don't fit right

i've grown a suit of armor
so that i regain control
i've curled my hand into a fist
that wrapped around my soul
sometimes its difficult to breathe
while holding on so tight
been torn down so damned often
that my pieces don't fit right
