once you're spit into this world

you're caught up in a race
for some the stunt's to stay in front
some never join the chase

the mass that's in the middle
is a mark that's thick and black
the ones there love to push and shove
their fellow racers back

for me the resolution
is to run off to the side
i deftly drift and make a shift
and do a little slide

just slightly left of center
is the place that suits me right
that's where i zoom with elbow room
so i don't have to fight

that chaos in the middle
stays a distant harmless buzz
when i was young that's where i hung
and wondered where i was

when neck and neck with people
you are prone to their attack
the future's lost when you are tossed
inside that churning pack

you need not seize the front row
that's a hard and painful pace
the quest is clear if you just steer
into your own clear space
