I sat back in my cell, eyes closed, humming that Kamelot song still. Every once in a while, I would get up and stretch, and then get on my back again, sometimes with my shirt off against the cold floor. I sighed, wishing they hadn’t confiscated my things. At least I felt safer with my items in the police’s possession than Stevens’s, and if what the officer, Larry, said was true, then I figured I would be free in a few hours for a bit.

I drummed my fingers on the bars and sighed. “Will this ever end…?”

“When you start listening to me…” I spun to see God, lying on the bench just as I had been. I chuckled.

“Whatever happened to ‘no more visits,’ huh?”

God stretched, still in the form of Thompson, and adjusted his glasses. “Well… I figured since you did at least one thing I asked… which was go to see Thompson, I have decided to give you another chance at advice…”

“Well… I’ve done what you asked… at this point at least… I actually told my friends to let the law take its course with me, and resolved things with Thompson, in a way…”

“I know… and see where it has you?”

“Yep… in jail… I think I preferred my way of handling things…”

“Well… YOUR ways, your rash ways, landed you in jail… and it is only by your moment of peaceful resolution that you are safe…” God nodded. “And if you keep this peaceful resolution, then you shall win, and your enemies will fall…”

“Meaning the trial…”

“Yes… the trial… as long as when everyone puts their hand on my Word… and tell the honest truth… then you shall be free…”

“And if they lie, just a bit…?”

“Then you shall be convicted…”

“Sounds like that’s not too promising…” I sighed. “So… my guess is to let YOU work things out…?”

God nodded. “If you keep your faith and try not to do anymore… rash… tricks, then you’ll be fine…”

“Well… I’m not sure what else can be done… even when I’m released later…”

“Forge up papers, kill the judge or Stevens, flee the country…”

“My you do know me…!” I said with an air of amusement. “You know me well…” I sat next to God. “So… what’s going to happen then? Once all this is over…”

“You’ll go on living life… for every mistake and bit of trouble you make, you’ll suffer for it… for every decent move you make… you’ll be rewarded… that’s how life is…”

“Thought God didn’t control life…”

“I don’t… but nature does… and when stuff goes amiss hell or heaven has no fury like nature scorned…”

I laughed. “I can understand that… all right… we’ll keep playing by your rules… and see what happens…”

“Good…” God touched my face, even though I couldn’t feel it, and disappeared. A guard made his way down the stairs upon the evaporation. “All right… you’re out… go home… but here are the court date papers for next week…”

“Oh… good…” I said, taking them, as well as a bundle of my items. I thanked him and made my way out the door, looking up at the bright sky. “Show off…” I chuckled. I dialed my cell phone, and was answered by a sleepy Satyr. “Hello…?”

“Satyr… it’s Sakis… I’m out…”

“What… really… that was only… an hour! Wow… glad we stayed here… hold on… give me a moment…” I heard an engine start. “OK… we’re on our way… in… two seconds…” I turned to see his black car pull across the street and weave through the parking lot. He pulled up, cranking what I could most easily recognize as Marduk. I grinned. “You just HAD to play the album that we fought over the first day we met… didn’t you?”

“What can I say…” Satyr said, leaning out the window. “It’s our song…”

I shrugged and then braced myself as Nell jumped out of the car and leaped into my arms, snuggling against me. “Mmm… good to see you’re out safe…”

“At least until the court date, next week…”

“Well… as long as you’re home… for now…” She kissed my cheek and hugged me again. I felt other arms embracing me. “Got room for one more?” Satyr asked.

“Doesn’t bother me…” I said. Nell rolled her eyes at me. I felt four more arms work their way around us, and could smell Anna and Amanda’s perfume. I said, under a muffle of bodies. “Jesse… Ryan… are you guys in this too?”

“I think we’re fine…” Jesse called back.

“Oh no you don’t! Everyone is in this group hug!” Satyr snapped, grabbed Jesse and pulled him in with the rest of us, while grabbing Ryan by the neck and pulling him as well. “We’re all going to celebrate this moment that nothing can touch us right now… nothing!”

“Except each other…” Ryan muttered. Satyr tightened his grip. “Hey… you’re choking me…”
“That’s part of the idea… rapper boy…” Satyr hissed. I shot him a warning look and he sighed, releasing Ryan. We all broke apart and I sighed. “So… how are we going to do this? We have seven people… and only five seats…”

“Someone sit in someone’s lap?” Anna suggested.

I laughed. “You aren’t sitting on mine…”

“I never said I was, you ass!”

“A good thing too…”

She growled and lunged at me, the two of use wrestling on the ground. I heard Satyr cough. “Yep… everything’s back to normal when you know that Sakis and Anna are at each other’s throats again…”

Nell sighed, and grabbed me by the shoulders, shaking me. “Stop it! You two are acting like children…”

“This is how we deal with things…”

“The act is over! There’s no need to fight anymore!! I thought things were cleared up…”

“What did I tell you… love?” I grunted as Anna leaped on my back. “Family… rivalry!” I spun and dumped her in the car. I shook my head and grinned at her. “You and me… at home… we finish this on softer grounds…”
“Your bed?” Anna shot back.

“I was thinking more like the carpet… more room…”

“Fine with me… you know you’re going down-”

“All right you two… enough… come on… get in the car…” Jesse sighed. “I don’t think I’ll stick around for that match…”

Both Anna and I gave very sad looks. “Aw why not… it could be fun!”

“Because knowing already what’s gone on between you two, I really don’t want to!”

We both laughed. “Oh… that was just experimenting… I believe we’re set straight now as can be…” I nodded to Anna. “Right?”

“Right…” she said, but I saw her hesitate, which made me frown.

“Anna…”

“What??” she snapped. “I agreed with you, didn’t I?”

“Forget it…” I sighed. I stretched and sat down on the parking lot blacktop. “So... how are we going to do this…?”

“Someone could get another car…” Anna suggested. “If Satyr drops me off to get it…”

“And come back an hour later… I don’t think so!” I snorted. “Ryan… can you get my car?”

“You’re car is totaled remember…”

“Damnit…” I sighed. “OK… Amanda…?”

“Already on it…” She jumped into Satyr’s car. “Come on… crank that Marduk back up and let’s get another hellbent chariot of metal!”

Satyr nodded. “See you in half an hour…”

“See you in twenty minutes…” I corrected.

He sighed. “Not even enough time for one…”

“No… I’m tired, I want to go home… and sleep in my bed!”

“With her?” Satyr nodded to Nell.

“Most likely… now come on… get me another car please…”

“Yes sir…” Satyr nodded, and sped off.

Jesse watched them go and sighed. “We’re not going to see those two ever again…”

“We better!” I laughed. “He owes me my Marduk albums back before he does any disappearing.”

Nell rested her head on my shoulder and sighed, looking at the sky. “It’s going to be a hot one today…”

“Good thing I have fans…” I nodded.

“The heck with your fans… I have a pool…” Anna bragged.

“Rich bitch. I hope you bake in the sun…” I cursed.

“You can come on over and bake with me if you want…?”

“Tempting… but with that shattered window, I don’t know if I would feel safe in that house…”

“Suit yourself…”

I nodded and sighed. “I think I’ll take a shower when I get home… then eat something… and then just collapse…”

“Mind if I join you?” Nell asked.

“Depends on which of those options you want a part of…?”

“All…”

“All right… you’re in then…” I nodded, lying down and she lying next to me. Anna sighed and turned away. Jesse bent over me. “So… anyway… you’re telling me you crawled into a duct as a ninja and snuck into Stevens’s office like Spiderman and changed all the papers but my own…?”

“Yea… sorry…” Jesse said, flinching like I was going to punch him. “I was a bit rushed…”

“Well… considering how things turned out… I’m not as mad as I might have been an hour ago…” I smiled. “So… you’re forgiven…”

“Amanda sure didn’t forgive me… she was furious…”

“Amanda is a furious, unforgiving person…”

“And a self righteous bitch…” Anna added.

I sighed and turned to her. “No more self righteous than you…”

“I know…” But, I could tell by her expression she really didn’t. Ryan rested himself against a nearby car and let out a deep sigh. I looked up at him. “What?”

“What are you going to tell mom and dad… they get back from their trip next week… the court date on that paper says you have two weeks until your trial… what are you going to tell them?”

“Simply that a lot of crazy stuff went on… there was an accident which totaled the car, I got put in jail for being mistaken for assault…”

“You did assault that guy… I thought…”

“Satyr did… I was just a spectator and a helping finger, at times… but that’s not the point!” I snapped. “Point is… we tell them the truth…”

“No way… we lie! You know how dad gets when we mess up… especially with you…”

“Ryan… trust me… if we lie and they find out… then we’ll be in even more trouble…”

“Then we’ll be extra careful won’t we…?

I rolled my eyes. “There is no extra careful… if you haven’t learned that yet!”

“Well… considering you’re the one who bears most of the punishment… it’s more like you’ve learned and I haven’t…”

I sighed. “You know what… fine… we’ll do things how YOU want to do them, but it’s all on your head if things go wrong…” I rubbed my eyes. “So… how are we to go about doing this?”

“Well… your face… I think we have to tell them about that… and that the car was totaled, but it was the truck’s fault right…?”

“I suppose… I took down the number of the license plate… as for the car it’s probably in the junk yard or impounded…” I sighed. “Maybe in a few days the stitches will come out and they scars will be barely visible…”

“OK… and as for the whole jail and trial thing… we don’t mention that… we just say we’re going to hang out…”

“If we get Judge Judy or Joe Brown you know our dad will probably see us on TV and flip out…”

Ryan snorted. “They aren’t going to put us in THOSE courts… those are mostly financial issues… this is different…”

“Well still…”

“Sakis… trust me… we’ll be fine…”

“And if we’re not…?”

“We’ll be…”

“And if we’re NOT!” I snapped again. “Then how exactly do you plan on falling back to plan B?”

Ryan sighed. “You know… man… I really don’t have a plan B… I mean we could say we had twins or those weren’t us… but then it’d be a bit hard if they said our names…”

Nell nudged my shoulder. “Why is it such a bad thing that your parents know what’s going on?”

Ryan looked at her. “The reason our parents went on this tennis trip for a night… which turned into a week… and left no number for us to bug them is because we drive them nuts with our constant bickering… and plus the trouble that we both cause… Sakis is worse than me-”

“Oh shut it…” I rolled my eyes.

“Well… your troubles are more exigent than mine… Anyway… there’s only so far one can be pushed until they push back… and Sakis just happened to be the one who was pushed back all the time…”

“Oh…” I could tell she didn’t understand so I put the idea in simple terms. “Abuse, love… abuse…”

“What!? That’s not fair to you! You should arrest your parents…”

I shrugged. “Only happens when we piss them off… simple as that. As long as they aren’t upset we’re fine…”

“The key is ‘as long as they aren’t upset’ now…” Ryan nodded.

I nodded back in agreement and sighed, resting my head back on the ground. Anna knelt down next to me and stroked my hair. “It’ll be fine… you always seem to come out in the end a big banged up, but you still make it out in the end…”

“Thanks…” I nodded and touched her hand. I turned to Nell who shifted uncomfortably and I reached over and squeezed her arm reassuringly. She smiled snuggled next to me on the pavement. Anna sighed and rose and went back to standing next to Jesse, who cleared his throat. “So… Sakis… what exactly is the plan…”

“My plan? I’m going home…” I said. “I’m going home… going to shower… going to eat… and going to go to bed! You and everyone can come along for the ride and stay for food if you want, in my tiny house… or go home yourselves… I think I’ll take some of that precooked salmon and grill it…”

Jesse wrinkled his nose. “I hate fish…”

“Then you can have Cheetos…”

“That works…” Jesse smiled and nodded. “So… what about this court thing…?”

“We let it run its course… no lies… just telling the truth…”

“Wait… but you did assault Stevens… in the ward didn’t you?”

“Call it self defense… we were prisoners…”I shrugged. “Stevens will have to admit to as much as we do… and I think the scales weigh in our favor…”

“What makes you so sure?”

“God…”

Anna laughed. “Wow… you’re lucky Satyr and Amanda aren’t here… they’d kill you…”

“They’d try…” I corrected. “But, I have a good feeling about this...”

“Just like the last few days…? Where you’ve been assaulted, drugged, heartbroken, in a car accident… do you consider those things good?”

“Everything happens for a reason… you know this…”

“No, I don’t…” she snapped back. “You act like everything is fine when things are not… you’re possibly going to jail, your face is ruined, and you’re…” I saw her pause.

“Go ahead… spit it out…” I taunted.

“You know… forget it…” she sighed, shaking her head and turning away. I shook my head at her and looked at Nell. “You want to go home, love?”

“No… I want to stay with you…”

“All right…” My ears perked up to the sound of music and turned my head towards two black approaching cars. “And the chariots arrive…” I got up and made my way over to Satyr’s truck and slid in the front sit. “OK… get us home…!”

“Definitely…” He cranked up the music, and Nell and Jesse got in the back. Ryan moved to climb in as well but Satyr shook his head. “You ride with Amanda… same with Anna…”

“What… I want to ride with Sakis…!”

“You’re not riding in my car…” Satyr snapped.

I sighed. “Damnit it you two… fine… I’ll ride with Amanda and Ryan… Satyr you take Jesse and Nell to where they want to go…”

“I’m riding with you too…” Nell said, staring indignantly as if I had said the dumbest suggestion in the world. I laughed.

Satyr shook his head. “All right… see you at your place then… right?”

“Yes…” I nodded as I made my way to Amanda’s car and slid in the back with Nell and Anna. Ryan took the front seat.

“What be the music choice, love?” Amanda asked me.

“Something easy going… for once…”

“Therion?”

“Good enough for me… opera metal always works…”

She nodded and changed CDs and I closed my eyes and rested my head against Nell’s shoulder, feeling her hands across my cheek. At least I thought it was her hands; I couldn’t say for sure because my eyes were closed and there was no way I was opening them unless I had to.

I guess I lost track of time because before I knew it Nell shook my shoulder and announced we were home. I groaned, slid out of the car and collapsed on the grass. Ryan looked over me. “You know… home means actually inside the house… and you’re still outside…”

“I’m tired… leave me alone…” I groaned.

“… and you just fell on dog shit…”

I sighed. “Well… I’ll throw the shirt away and shower anyway so… not a problem…” I got up, took my shirt off carefully, and threw it in the nearby garbage bin. We all made our way to the door; I reached under the nearby brick for the spare key, handed it to Ryan who unlocked the door, and basically walked inside, made a left, and fell on my bed. I grabbed my stereo remote, turned it on, and shut my eyes. Satyr followed me in and sat on the bed next to me. “Well… are you glad to be out of that hell hole…?”

“More than you could imagine…” I said, my voice muffled by the fact I was face down on the comforter.

“Yea… I’m sorry I didn’t go with you… they wouldn’t let me go…”

“Don’t worry about it… It was better that you didn’t share a cell with me… we probably would have broken the place down and gotten in more trouble…”

“Yea… why is it that everywhere you and me go we ‘cause Hell?”

“Because… usually you start something… then I try to help… I get involved… and things spiral out of control… you know how it is…”

“I know all too well…” Satyr laughed. Then he grew serious. “You know… about this whole court thing… we really should consider lawyers… and defense…”

“We know nothing about that stuff… and we don’t know anything about law… we just let things go as they do…”

“Sakis… you’re not invincible… I mean so far we’ve had our good run of luck… but all luck runs out in the end…”

“Not ours…” I smiled.

“You keep thinking that…”

I sighed. “What… do you think we can’t do this? Satyr…”

“We’re not invincible…” he repeated. “You have to realize that even though you broke out of a mental institution twice… which is pretty amazing I say… you still have to consider the fact that we may not win this court case… they do have evidence that we assaulted Jeff and his dad…
“And what about your ribs?”

Satyr shifted and rubbed his chest. “They’re doing OK for now… the doctor’s did a really good job… I just can’t really do any tackling action… and besides… we don’t have the charts to prove it…”

“We can’t get them…?”

“Stevens probably has them…”

I sighed. “Damnit!”

“Damnit is right… Sakis… what are you going to do if you lose…?”

“I’m not going to lose!”

“Sakis… what are you going to do if you lose…?” Satyr repeated.

“I… don’t know…” I said. “I have no idea… I guess suffer the sentence they give me… give us… what can I say…”

“What about Nell…?”

“She’s innocent in this… she won’t get put on trial…”

“No… what are you going to do if you get convicted…?”

“Hope she’ll stay faithful…”

Satyr laughed. “No one wants to wait months or years for someone…”

“I know… it’ll be up to her… whatever happens…”

“Do you want her to go?”

I looked at him. “Not a chance…”

“I’m just saying… you know that Amanda, myself, and Anna will be around forever for you… even though we’re all going to jail will you probably… and they both love you… and you love them… in a sense… and Nell is just… there… So I’m just trying to say… it’s not the end of the world for you if she leaves…”

“What happens is what happens…”

“Well what do YOU want to happen?” Satyr asked, stroking his chin. “Sakis… you sometimes have to push for your own endings… can’t leave it up to everyone else these days…”

I sighed. “I want to win the case… and be with Nell… and for once have a week where we can all be together without someone getting furious at someone else unless in good humor or causing trouble…”

“Then push for it…”

“I’ll push if I have to…”

“No… you push no matter what… end of story…” Satyr said, knocking me on the shoulder softly. “It’s how you win… how we always win…”

“We’ll see…” I shut my eyes. “Where is everyone…?”

“They’re here… out in the front room… do you want to kick us out?”

“No… go ahead and stay… I’m actually going to eat something now that I think about it…” I rose from the bed and made my way to the kitchen. Everyone was sitting at the table, looking apprehensive. I laughed. “I guess I’m cooking lunch then, aren’t I?” I made my way to the fridge, grabbed a few salmon fillets and some foil, and went out back to the grill. “Spices or no spices?” I called.

“Spices!” almost everyone roared.

“OK… Jesse you want me to make you a cheeseburger?” I asked.

“Sure…”

I turned on the grill and then turned to see Satyr hauling my stereo out from inside the house. “Now how can you grill without your music… what shall it be…?”

“Get me some Soulfly… what else do we need?”

Bochie ball… I’m up for a game…”

“OK… then go for it… it’s in the garage…”

Satyr disappeared and Nell came outside, watching me. “So… how do you grill… anyway?”

“Unwrap the salmon… put it on the foil if you don’t want the grill pattern or want it to be clean… put the spices on… grill five minutes a side… and then you’re OK…”

“Can I…?”

“Yes… I’m going inside to shower anyway…”

“All right…”

I nodded, gave her a quick kiss, and took to the bathroom. I took off the rest of the clothes I had on and slid into the glass shower and just stood there for five minutes, feeling the water pour. I heard the door open and spun to see Anna walk in, closing the door behind her softly. She walked up to the glass and stared. “What are you doing here…?”

“Watching you… what else would I be doing?”

“Anna… I’m showering… do you have any idea of what would happen if Nell or someone walked in…”

“Nell is grilling… as you left her… and everyone is setting up to play bochie ball… that just leaves me and you… here…”

I smiled grimly. “I thought we were over this…?”

“It’s harder than you think, Sakis.”

“You’re worse than Amanda-”

“Don’t compare me to that bitch… she doesn’t love you a quarter of how I feel about you…”

I sighed, and stepped out of the shower, grabbed her, and pressed her against the mirror. “How many times do I have to tell you…? I don’t feel this way anymore… it was wrong… it wasn’t right… we were experimenting… end of story. And no matter what you do… I won’t go back. You can get rid of Nell… you can get rid of every girl I date for the rest of my life… you can leave it all down to just me and you… but I’m not giving in… all right? So stop this!”

She looked back at me, smiling strangely. “You know if I can’t have you… no one else can…”

“I’m aware of your feelings on the subject…” I let her go and she jumped at me.

“Love me! Just once… please… I just want…”
I pushed her back. “No! Anna… get out!”

“Fuck you… fuck me! Do you have any idea what you’ve done to me… how you’ve affected me!? You’re the greatest person in the world and you don’t see how much I have to offer you!”

“You have a lot to offer… but it’s something I can’t have…” I said softly.

“So you admit you want it! You admit you want me!” Anna said excitedly.

“If I could have you I would… but we’re family… it’s too weird… too nuts... and besides I have Nell…”

“Nothing’s stopping us now, love…” Anna stroked my face. “Not one thing… except that door… just once… is all I’m asking… for old time’s sake…”

I shook my head. “Get out… I’m not doing anything for you… You go out that door or I will…”

She sighed, eyes narrowing. “Fine… you want to play it the hard way… then I will…” Anna threw a towel at me and stormed out the door. I shook my head, and got back in the shower. I washed up quickly and jumped out, dried off, throwing some clothes on in my room, and went outside with everyone else, who was already eating. Nell walked up to me with a fillet covered in speckles. “Hopefully I didn’t use too many spices…”

I tore a piece off and bit down, smiling. “Not at all… it’s perfect… excellent work, love…” I kissed her and saw Anna in the corner of my eye turn away. I sighed internally. When was she going to learn? Nell saw my frustration. “Love… what is it?”

“Nothing…” I nodded, still watching Anna. “Nothing at all…” I took her hand and we sat down next to Satyr, who had a bottle of champagne he had stolen from the fridge. “All right… what are we going to drink to…?”

“All the good metal on this earth…” I nodded, as he filled my glass. Satyr nodded to everyone else. “Come on… pick your vices…!”

“Video games…” Ryan shrugged. Satyr rolled his eyes.

“Hot girls…” Amanda smirked.

“Sheer luck…” Jesse added.

“Good people who are more than they appear…” Nell nodded.

“That’s a good one…” Satyr nodded. He turned to Anna. “Hey, love… how about your pick?”

Anna shook her head. “Fuck you…” she snapped and stormed into the house. Satyr looked at her and then me.

“What did you do…?”

“I didn’t do anything…” I shrugged.

“Well… you must have done something…”

“I didn’t do a goddamn thing…!”

“Well… you go fix it… you know you’re the only one that can talk to her ‘cause…”

“I know that all too well… so give me a minute…” I sighed. I nodded to Nell. “Hold on, love… I’ll be right back…”

I took off into the house after Anna and saw her in my room, looking at a poster on the wall. I shut the door and sighed. “Anna…”

She spun and dove at me, and this time I didn’t have much time to react as she pushed me against the wall. Her mouth pressed to mine and I turned my head. “Damnit… you sneaky bitch!”

“I figured someone would send you after me…” she breathed into my ear. “Had to get you unprepared somehow…”

I pushed her to the ground and rolled on top of her. “Damnit… Ann! I swear I’ll tie you down and leave you bound and gagged if you don’t stop this shit!”

“Lick my cunt while you’re at it… will you?” she shot back.

I rolled my eyes and bore down on her, just inches from her face. “I swear… you are incorrigible…” I hissed.

“No more than you, love.” She stuck her tongue out and hit my nose. I sighed and got up, sticking an arm out to keep her at bay.

“You keep doing this shit… and I won’t see you again…”

“You can’t resist me…” she smiled, coyly, flashing me briefly with her pale white breasts.

“Of course I can…” I snorted and walked out the door. I heard her yell for me but I shook my head and just kept walking.
