Sitting here hearing the wind howling and the rain pouring down reminds me of when I was little. When the thunder roared and the lightening flashed my mum would hold me close and sing to me.
Softly she would say all the right things she always knew what they were. The songs and whispers stayed with me, when I grew up I sang them to my children. Now my daughter sings to her children, the same songs. It is amazing how mothers always know the right words to soothe their children.
Sometimes I wished I could grow up quicker be an adult be able to look after myself, I wouldn’t need my mum as much. How wrong that was, no matter that I have children and grandchildren of my own or that I am nearing 50 years old, I need my mum just as much now as then. Nobody can ever take the place of my mum; I love my partner, my children and my siblings but not in the way I love my mum!
I know I don’t tell her often enough that I love her or thank her for everything she has done and continues to do for me. I guess I think she must know, the same way I know my children feel the same way about me.
My children asked me what they could get me for mothers day on Sunday, I told them I, I have their love what else could I possibly need?
