I've never been through dark days, but I can emphasis in people who HAVE been there. This is a piece that thickens it.

As she wanders through the city streets, walking eyes can’t see her. When she passes, all you feel is a breeze, streaking down your spine. Her empty eyes have seen too much. The life has been drained out of her. Everything, she’s seen twice. Her skin, pale as the white wall behind her. Hair, red as copper, flowing down her back, curled up. Her lips, soft as a peach it’s skin.
Tired of everything she continues her walk, through the night. She comes out when darkness falls, how she likes it the most. She has been looking for the sun for too long.
She thinks about how her life could’ve been before she decided to face away forever. To be a footprint in the hearts of the people who love her, even if she doesn’t believe those people exist.  She could scream at the top of her lungs, but nobody would hear her, so her cries became whispers.

Well written. I read it three times and each time I got a different impression of what was being said. I think you mean "empathize" instead of "emphasis" in the teaser.
