a great bonfire within the dunes
the flames roar thirty feet high
a sacrificed redwood lies
entrenched in the fire
offering a path
we take turns walking through the inferno
some quick
some slow
some with leaps and tumbles
some dance in twirls as they proceed
i paused
midway along the giant
reveling in the flame consuming the air about me
i would have let it engulf me
devour me

a small fire in a steel pit
attracts the love of a great brown moth
larger than a human hand
it dances with the heat drafts
then succumbs
a beautiful suicide to the flame
