old superstition

Once my mum ,grandma, grandpa and some other folk made coffee,
Simple coffee you might think ,but no!
It was sweetened kind of coffee ,made for what?
Search me! I had no clue it was made for what!
We circled a small table ,sipped our coffee out of an earthen coffee-pot,
There must be something behind this ,I should know ,I must'
''Why is it so sweet mum?''This what I asked.
Usually you scent it with safron ,cardamom or something!
'You naughty boy'! Shut up don't say anything!
You don't realize he might be hidden somewhere ready to flit around your neck ,to strangulate you to death if said anymore word!
Is it a big animal ?Is it something like a bird?
No, it's a snake lurking in the house for a couple of days.
We hope to drive it out soon ,my son, we hope.
Ah, that's why you 've made sweetened coffee, mum I said.
''Sip your coffee like your grandad ,look at him !look!
''Is this bloody child of yours still hurling blasphemies here and there''?
''Any more rubbish,I would with this bludgeon dash your head!
'You might as well smash the snake with it instead'
Shut up! furiously he said.
'What if there is a viper ,a rattler or a hamadryad rampant on its tail?

'I can't stand him anymore, take your child out ,he's driving me mad!
We can't go like that !We hope that thing slither before dawn.
This brat is ruining everythig we plan!
Out I went ,while cautiously he was tapping ,but there was no snake! Away it ran!
