There was a poor old man who lived alone in my street when I was very young. His appearance was very shabby and so we called him Tattie bogle- a scottish name for a Scarecrow.

Poor old Tattie Bogle

Living all alone

All his neighbours keep away

From his scruffy home

Shabby Tattie Bogle

Begging for his food

Hair unkempt and clothes all worn

Forever in a mood

Scarey Tattie Bogle

No one wants to meet

All the children run from him

When he walks down the street

Crazy Tattie Bogle

Screaming all night long

No one asks what’s wrong with him

Or stops his desperate song

Bye bye Tattie Bogle

Now Buried in the ground

No one there to speak of you

No memories to be found

Pity tattie bogle

Take a sympathetic view

For there but for the grace of God

Goes a man who could be you
