This was inspired by a visit to our apartment in Antwerp by my girlfriends 19 year old niece and her equally effervescent friend.

Peace, silence, calm, serenity

And yet………………………

Talking, not shouting, listening, replying

And yet……………………….

Quiet moments interspersed with gentle converse

And yet………………………..

Able to think, to ponder, to question

And yet………………………..

Boisterous, noisy, squealing, loud

Me, me, me, I am the crowd

Effervescent, energetic, physically demanding

Dancing, jumping, showboating, grandstanding

Shouting, running, go, go ,GO!

Look at me, I am the show

A minute here, a second there

Can’t even see how people stare.

Exhausting, baffling, generation gap?

Endless adrenalin on tap

Three days pass in half the time

But being young, is that a crime?

Peace, calm, serenity, still?

Talking, not shouting, over the hill?

Quiet moments, set in your ways?

Able to think, lost your best days?

In truth It was a breath of fresh air

To waltz through life with no real care

To shout and dance with no inhibition

Having the time of your life was your only mission

You’re welcome here whenever you wish

Only one condition that I insist

Don’t change your ways, not the slightest bit

Just be yourself , you were a HIT!
