Upon a dreary rocky outcrop, sits a wolf.
A lone wolf.
Staring out upon his world, so crowded and full.
Yet he yearns to be with another.
One to share his time, his soul, his sorrows.
A friend, a companion, a love.
Why does he yearn so much for companionship,
When he is surrounded by others?
For is he not a social animal.
He is the lone wolf,
Longing for emotional nourishment,
Longing for a friend.
One who listens, who understands.
One who cares, who consols.
One whom comforts in his suffering.
Upon a dreary rocky outcrop he howls.
Howling for others to hear and recognise his need.
Yet no-one answers, for they cannot hear his cries, above the din of life.
Is he destined to live a life of loneliness and pain.
Or will one who cares and suffers the same, come and join him.

The lonely wolf, upon this dreary rocky outcrop.
