LOOKING UP AT ME
There you sit
In the dirt
Looking up at me
Arms held high
Pleading.

There you sit
In your anguish
Looking up at me
With tear streaked cheeks
Wondering.

There you sit
In your torn clothes
Looking up at me
You begin to scream
Demanding.

There you sit
With your swollen belly
Looking up at me
You try to rise
Hoping.

What have we done?
How do we pull you from your grave?
What did we do?
How can we fix what we have broken?

There you sit
A product of us all
Looking up at me
I cry out
Disturbed

There you sat
Until I gathered you up
Looking up at me
You die
With hope abandoned.

Why must we have…All?
Why does death follow greed?
Why do lies propagate so effortlessly?
Why do I allow it to happen?
Can I stem the flow?

I can only try…if only for you…as you lay there looking up at me.
