I often wonder !

Life is but a thought

compared to eternity

Often shared with those who care

Just as thoughts should be

The shadows we cast

Still remain in the past

We live then we die

In the blink of an eye

Yet our souls carry on

Forever they fly.

Profound thinking. Our entire life of the planet is just a microsecond of time itself. I like to think about all the souls that remain for me to make contact with when I finally go my way. ~Tom

I love pondering the answers to the universe. Nice seeing other poets here on Booksie writing about those wonderings, Mr. Watson, and yours surely didn't disappoint. I love that picture of the tree too, by the way - the sky looks so colorful and magical.

You know my works Hanorbi, I don't do long pieces, sort of short and compressed. That's where I got the Idea for the title. thank you for those kind words.

Indeed, sir. We think of ourselves as giants here on earth, but in the infinite universe, we are ants. Our actions have great effect on those around us and maybe even on the world, but they are inconsequential when compared to the results an act of mother nature can accomplish. Our lives may seem to last a lifetime, but our lifetime is nothing. However, that does not mean we are insignificant. And when our end comes, it may not truly be our end, but the birth of a new beginning. Very well written poem here.

You have said so much by writing so little- I liked it

I try not to make my pieces too long Evie. I think some may get bored if I prattle on. Thanks for looking in, it's always a pleasant surprise to have a new reader. : )

Yeah, it's so weird to think that our lives seem so long yet they are actually really short compared to the big picture- just made me think how eternity is going to feel compared to this "short" life. This was shorter but very thought provoking for me. Great job

So very true, I interpret this as we should carefully consider to whom we choose to spend our time and efforts with.

Well done

Making the most of what we've got, and learning from each other, would be a good start for some. we all see different interpretations in poems Mr. Woods. That's the beauty of poetry, I'm pleased the message came across.

Thanks for reading and commenting Zanybelle. Life is but a blink of an eye, when you think about how long the planet we live on has been around.

What a lovely little piece Mr Watson! It really does go to show you how precious life really is, especially when as you rightfully say, 'We live then we die, in the blink of an eye.' We should always aim to make the very most of our lives, for the future is always so uncertain! I loved your ending, 'Yet our souls carry on, forever they fly.' What a fabulous way to end a deeply meaningful poem! I like the idea that even after we're gone physically, our souls can still carry on the journey that they remain forever! Marvellous!! Excellent job as always Mr Watson. Hope you're keeping well and in good spirits by the way? :) It's a real shame that the 'Like' button has now disappeared. Oh well, it get's a 'Thumbs Up' from me. :)

Thanks for reading James. Life is short, what goes on after, we'll never know until our time comes.

You say so much by writing too little. Love the idea!
Life IS really short and we need to use our time wisely. Time is laughing as it moves it's hands quickly and easily. Saying, "your time ends soon and it's not my responsibility. Don't come crying to me and please use it when it comes to quality."

That's exactly what I was thinking of after reading your poem, Mr. Watson. Hopefully, it makes sense. Our time will end up soon and we can’t regret that fact. Our souls can be taken from us any time...This is another great poem of yours!

Your comment does indeed make sense. We are on this Earth for such a small time. So make the most of it !
