My mother lied about my birth father. Telling me he had left her while she was pregnant and didn't want anything to do with me. She eventually told me the truth 43 years later. She had told my father she had miscarried me and then left him. I searched for him. When I eventually found him he sadly had Alzheimer's. This is my poem to him.

A face in a photograph

Is all I can know

I found you to late

No bonds can grow.

I thought you didn't care

Or so I'd been told...

Just upped and left

 with a heart ice cold.

Now I know different

You were never made aware

I was your daughter...

Left rotting in care.

I found your son

Learnt of your fate...

A mind dissolved...

To a child like state.

Cruel, sick and twisted

That's how I see life,

Tearing me up

Like a jaggered knife.

A mothers mistake

 a truth she denied,

Keeping apart...

A father and child.
