I wrote this poem a few days after Dale Earnhardt Sr. died. For those that don't know he died during the 2001 Daytona 500. It took me a few days to write this. It was only after I saw the memorial service they had for him that I found the words.

“Superman’s Dead”

Dale Earnhardt

Everyone cheered for you,

In their own way.

If they loved you or hated you,

They’re with you today.

You were our hero,

You were Superman.

You were invincible,

To every fan.

Everyone said,

That you'd pull through.

Everyone cried,

And prayed for you.

You were gone,

At age 49.

A wife and kids,

You leave behind.

They will live,

To see another day.

Slowly but surely,

Their pain will ease away.

Life will continue,

But not like it was.

For one of the greatest,

Was taken from us.

My heart goes out,

To your family and friends.

The ones that were there,

Right till the end.
