A sonnet

Echoed in the classroom, sounds of war

Speckled noise we watch in black and grey

The trials of pain and violence from before,

When our Father’s Grandfathers went away.

Young naive boys made their Mothers weep,

As they announced they’d signed-up for the fight.

But those who came back, altered, couldn’t sleep

For fear the war would haunt them in the night.

And in the darkened classroom we are made

To sit and watch in silence as they fall,

And witness all the lives that had been paid

In fighting for the freedom of us all.

We spare a thought for those men of the past

As light returns, and brings us back to class.

Great work following sonnet structure, very pure rhymes and flowing meter. However, the biggest congrats goes to the simplistic yet complete story. Quick to draw out emotions, this piece really finds me. You're a very great poet, this is an excellent commercial poem, it's got the universal meaning with the open attractiveness. Great piece :)

Thank you kindly :)
I don't generally follow the rules of structure when it comes to poems(beyond meter), but I fancied a crack at a sonnet for a change. I'm glad someone likes it!
