Fire and Blood.

A  rush  towards the smoke and bullets,

the flames of war burn through the eyes,

a scramble for safety unreachable,

floundering amidst a ravaged wasteland.

Acrid blackness fills the empty sky,

A heavy blanket that mutes the dying cries,

Unheard, frightened thoughts go flying,

Prayers for the fallen, the lost and the loved.

Blood soaked ground stretches on,

The  world regarding all from a distance,

As souls  rise upwards, leaving the body for the sky,

Death sends forth  a furious rain.

Lost, no man can run for cover,

Standing upon paths either chosen or inforced,

Frozen among the rows of heroes,  some fighting, some still,

Eyes unable to relinquish  their grasp on the image of  stolen life.
