From the depths of darkness I make this plea. These chains have held me for too long a time.

These iron chains that bind my feet,
Cruel embodiments of my defeat,
Grasp my hands and crown my head;
I cannot bear these bonds of dread.

Heavy, lies this weight of pain,
My thoughts of freedom die in vain.
Hope, where have you fled?
Despair has filled my soul like lead.

Bound and beaten, here I lay,
Doubt and fear, on me weigh;
And yet,
As hurt and anguish on me rain,
I have come to love these chains,
For these chains that lash and beat and bind,
Cannot hold me in my mind.

And I have won against my chains,
No longer do I feel their pain,
For in being bound, I found release,
And in my chains, I found peace.
