This poem was written over a year and a half ago. It's about my grandfather who was suffering from Alzheimers and it shows both points of view. Mine and as well his.

It was a trying time to take him away

I do not want to go anywhere but want to stay

Who is this person peering and pulling me back in the mirror

with this old face and wrinkled hand

I don’t know who it is, I cannot understand

I felt weak and weary when I entered his new room

No turning back now it was time to say goodbye soon

Where am I, it’s cold in here what is this place

I feel afraid and lost in another day

I placed the precious pictures of us on the table

Hoping that he will recognize me when he is capable

What is that horrible scream

I feel confused and hope this is not what it seems

Can’t I just take him back home

I could take care of him and he will never be alone

Who is this beautiful girl in my room

I hope she stays because this place feels like a tomb

If I hang more pictures would he have any recall

I just want him to remember me, that’s all

Lying in bed, cold, afraid, where am I

Where is my daughter, I feel weak and want to cry

It breaks my heart to see him this way

but I really want to end his pain

This long good bye breaks my heart

Tomorrow Granddad you will hopefully have a new start.
