Jake stood at the ships rail, looking out over the miles of ocean around him. It had been six weeks since they'd last been in port. Six weeks since he'd had solid ground under his feet. Six weeks since he'd last had a woman. Food and fresh water were starting to run low, despite the captains iron rationing. A thousand curses on him for taking them across this endless ocean away from land, food and women.

God, what he'd give to be back in the Rookeries, with gold in his pockets, a couple of London girls, warm beer and a few of his mates. Bet they were having a better time than he was, the stupid fool that he'd been. If he'd had the sense not to get blind in that damnable tavern, the press gang would never have gotten him. Five months under the sail now, and no hope of them turning for home. Supplies were so low, they had no choice but to go on across the burning ocean, hoping for a sighting of land.

Suddenly he saw something! A fleeting movement beneath the waves. Something was down there, something large. He carefully reached for a harpoon, hoping for some meat. Soon he had it readied, and he stood watching the waters again. Below him a shape emerged, a long slender body with a golden shroud around it's head.

The creature broke the surface and he dropped his harpoon in surprise as he gazed upon the face of a beautiful woman. The water droplets glistened in the sunlight as she easily swam alongside the ship. He was vaguely aware of her strong, fishy tail propelling her through the water, but most of his attention was upon her heaving breasts.

She gestured to him and he quickly leapt over the side, landing in the water near her. He surfaced, struggling to stay afloat in his rough work clothes. Strong arms embraced him and lifted him upright, and as his head broke the water he saw her face before his. She kissed him and embraced him and he returned her passion. They mated there in the water, unseen by those upon the departing ship.

As his passion was spent he felt her arms squeezing his chest and her body shift and change beneath him. Cold, scaly flesh was pressed against him, legs were wrapped around his waste and like a lodestone she was pulling him down into the depths. He struggled against her slimly grasp, but to no avail. Always he sunk deeper.

In the failing light, as he felt the great pressure of the oceans crushing the life from him he saw before his eye a great mouth, ringed with shark teeth open and engulf his face. Teeth pierced his chin and his skull, grating on the bones beneath as a long, flexible tongue slithered over his face. The last things he heard were the splintering of his jaw and the shattering of his skull.
