Watery Youth

She sat upon the jutting rock

Lost in her own innocent way

The water danced past

In a frenzy of drops

The ripples performed

Their own sweet play.

She watched as the running trickles

Flirted with every stone and flower

The sun shone high

As it did in those days

She cherished each peaceful hour

The birds sang their dutiful chorus

For potential mates to hear

Her chubby face laughed

At her childish grin

Her reflection so still, so clear

Over time the birds took flight

The ground crumbled and dried

The trees cracked

Decayed with age

Rotted almost overnight

She sat upon the jutting rock

Strewn with moss and weeds

After she had left

So did the magic

No child to plant new seeds

The water was a dark grey colour

The trickles choked with poison rain

No reflection, no grin

No watery stage

Her heart ached with pain

Shw will never forget it

Forged in her mind

The rock is still there

The girl...

Left behind
