VIEW OF THE WORLD
THROUGH A BLACK EYE

don't ask me
too many answers
all shades of grey
I have no truth

it was the door
the door knob
I fell
an accident

faces appear distorted
by this lens
balloon messages
pitydismissaldisgust
write labels to paste
on my forehead
victimstupid
reaching to plaster them
over the sign reading
she made me do it

the world is colored
purple despair
streaked brown
fading to that sickly yellow

shadows dance
against the walls
flickering in flashes
of shame and rage
looking for a window
looking for a door

seeking a secret panel
and finding only
seamless walls
