My tribute to this years Memorial Day. save the date: May 31, 2010!!!

Melanie Kane’s Memorial Day

Melanie Kane,

Would always complain,

About homework, teachers, and her “many” chores,

About her little brother, Sam, and her bedroom’s squeaky door.

But then came a day,

Towards the end of May,

That opened her eyes,

That made her realize,

On that day of spring,

Melanie learned some important things,

That all guardians suppose,

Their young ones should know.

Melanie’s family spoke of men,

Fighting for them,

And the rest of the people in the land,

That Melanie lived in a style rather grand.

Those men, she was told,

Some young, some old,

They took risks, they sacrificed,

They fought for our lives.

Also brought to Melanie’s attention,

Was the stress, the fear, the tension!

But the thing that gave Melanie quite the chill,

Was how, she was told, they fought then, they fight still.

Now Melanie knows that the last Monday in May,

Is more then she ever thought, more then just an off-day,

And now she takes a break from her petty play,

To sit by herself, and reflect her own way.

Sorry about the poem being all lumped together. I tried fixing that about 6 times but the sites not saving it. Oh well. And btw if anyone has any straining of the eyes because of all the colors in this poem, I apoligize for that 2.

Thx, and yes Memorial Day was on May 31, 2010. Its always on the last Monday of May. Its an American holiday, so you may or may not celebrate it.

That was pretty cool. It's a very creative way to describe something that many people don't really think hard about, other than to say it's a holiday. It is good to try to remember the significance of it.
