She stays indoors and keeps to herself

Afraid of the outside world

She believes she looks monstrous

And that others will laugh and stare

She says to herself I’ll go outside tomorrow

But as soon as she opens the door

She feels a draft and conceals her face

Realizing this little piece of hope was absurd

Hiding her disappointment

She locks the door and tries to forget

She is safe only in her home

No one can judge her there

Her family occasionally stops by to visit

They try to coax her out of her shell

She longs for a companion or lover

But panic sets in and takes her freedom away

The seclusion gives her a sense of ease

That no one else can change

She has to gather the courage

To walk out her front door
