Just something I decided to write. Not one of my better poems, but I like it anyway.

Your eyes sparkle when you smile,

But when that light fades away,

I can see what's lurking behind them,

A demon, stalking its prey.

As the lights die down in the streets,

And the clouds begin to rise,

That demon spreads its wings,

And takes to the skies.

It circles overhead,

Just waiting for a sign,

That will let it know,

When we've crossed the line.

It watches, and waits,

For the right moment to strike.

It feeds off of lost souls,

Humans and animals alike.

Though its ways of killing are different than most.

It attacks the most fragile part,

Not something on the outside.

It attacks the heart.

Your demon knows how to win,

Any battle it should choose.

It has its own strategies,

So it will never lose.

When this demon take you over,

You and it are one and the same.

It light in your eyes is gone,

And doesn't come back again.

After the demon has done its job,

And its victem's heart is no more,

It sinks back into its hiding place,

Hiding within your core.

And once again the twinkle has returned,

In your cheerful eyes.

There is no trace of a demon.

You live a life of lies.
