Once, a pundit was crossing the river ganga all alone in a boat. He was feeling bored. he started talking to the boatmen. The pundit was very proud of his knowledge and he wanted to show his vast knowledge to the boatmen. He told the boatmen that he had read all the vedas, vedantas, etc and asked him, "do you know vedas and vedantas?", the boatmen humbly replied, "No sir". Then the pundit was feeling really great and asked him again "do you know ramayana and mahabharata?", the boatmen replied again, "No sir". Now the pundit was really feeling proud. he asked the boatmen again, "have you ever read any philosophy?", the boatmen replied with same politeness, "No sir".
