Exertion

The room spins

The air heats up

My cheeks are flushed

My eyes, they droop

And sting with tears

As hammers bang

Upon my skull

My hearing’s dim

Vision blurry

My body limps

Across the floor

The throat’s on fire

Dry with warmth

As a gentle push

Squeezes my cheekbones

I dream of clouds

Of beds, of comfort

To sleep away the

Years of stress

Yet somehow, I keep

Going, never lying

Down to rest
