The Autumn Link

The gentle breeze doth carry and tickle

The ice’nd blue skies above

Which show no rain to come and trickle

And dampen the spirit of one man’s love

Thou art more than a name, mine own season friend

Thou art a link between two spirited hells

Wherein the heat dwelleth or else the cold reigns

But thou art more mild and temperate in which ye dwell

Naught but a hope to make amends

To things that art lost without end

But thou art there to help again

No more the green, but yea, thou art more!

An artist’s dream, the colors that shall brush across

A canvas, which is but a bore

‘Til thou art there, then none is lost;

The beauty within doth show

Mine eyes art pleased, then, with thee

For thou art the dream to keep mankind alive

But they shan’t know it, thou shall see

No one but me appreciate beauty, no

That thou showest around to others, oh!

A beauty doth be sacred, to no men, but five.

Why, then, it be that Spring shall sing

And thou canst not but hum?

But thou shall see what is surprising

Methinks the Spring is numb!

For Spring doth, too, link two spirited hells

Wherein the heat dwelleth or else the cold reigns

Yet, see mine own love for thee doth grow;

Spring mayst be that blessed warmth again

But thou, who mayst be cold for whosoevereth dwell

Mine own mind shall make known to thee so swell

Cold mayst be warmth, but warmth mayst not be cold, no!
