The Queen’s Last

Our time is fair but sadly done today,

For majesty has fled our solemn Earth

And though we cry and mourn and wail and pray

Heaven has claimed her own most noble birth.

For she that had a heart of gold has flown

To lofty reaches where her grace can shine.

I know not if I have the strength I’ve shown

In troubled times when our great queen was mine.

My plays were writ for her, my fairest queen

And if I am to stop, all hope is lost.

The crown´d head is gone, though still is seen

As England's fleet on Spanish seas are tossed.

My heart is grieving for my majesty’s smile,

Her savage power and her deadly style.
